The livelihood of the Pa-O people is based on agriculture. They grow tea leave, coffee, cheroot, mountain rice, paddy rice, wheat, potato, etc. The additional main cultivations are garlic, peanut, corn, ginger and turmeric with seasonal crops such as vegetable, beans and pulse. In orchards they cultivate dragon fruit, mango, banana, pineapple, strawberry, jack fruit and avocado.
The Pa-O mainly rely on agriculture for their income. Depending on the season they grow paddy and mountain rise, wheat, garlic, orange, green tea, cheroot, maize, peanuts, soya beans and others.
Another important source of income is to sell herbs and vegetable from their gardens or collected from the forest like bamboo shoots. They also rear animals like buffalo, cattle and horses for selling or as transport animals.
